Seven days, and what each one is for

This is everything we run. Five day trips and two overnight trips, all on Phu Quoc, all in groups of six to eight. Each page has an hour-by-hour plan, a price table by group size and a section on who the day does not suit.

Which one to pick

Most people have two or three free days on Phu Quoc between beach time, and the question is really which two. Here is how we answer it on the phone.

01

One day only

The pepper and fish sauce day. It covers the most ground, includes the two things the island is genuinely known for, and ends with lunch in a farm garden.

02

One evening only

The street food night walk. Four hours, six people, seven dishes, and you will eat better than in any restaurant on Long Beach.

03

Two days

The fishing village morning and the cooking day. Buy the fish at dawn, cook something like it the next morning.

04

Three or more days

Take the homestay. Sleeping in a village is a different experience from visiting one, and the difference is the evening.

What every day includes

  • A guide who speaks English and grew up on this island, for the whole day rather than a hand-off between drivers.
  • Transport from and back to your hotel within the standard zone, in a vehicle sized for the group rather than a coach with four people in it.
  • Every entry fee, visit fee and permit on the route. You will not be asked for money at a gate.
  • The food described on the page, eaten sitting down, with drinking water all day.
  • A flat visit fee paid by us to each producer, farm or boat, so that nothing on the route depends on you buying anything.

Not included on any day: alcohol beyond what is named on the page, travel insurance, tips, and anything you choose to buy. Full detail is in the includes block on each tour page and in the booking terms summary.

Seasons, honestly

MonthsWhat runsWhat to expect
November - MarchEverythingThe dry northeast season. Calm mornings, dust on the red roads, best light. Book earlier.
April - MayEverythingHot, 33 - 35 C by midday. We start earlier and finish the farm day by 15:00.
June - AugustAll except the motorbike daySouthwest monsoon. Rain comes in two-hour blocks rather than all day; the food and cooking days are unaffected.
September - OctoberAll except the motorbike dayThe wettest weeks. Also the greenest, the cheapest and the emptiest. Pepper harvest is over.

The pepper harvest runs roughly February to April and that is when a pepper farm is most interesting. Fish sauce barrels are filled from July, so the fermenting houses smell strongest between July and September. Neither is a reason to change your dates, but both are worth knowing. There is more in when to go.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Can we combine two of these into one day?

The cooking day and the street food walk, yes, and people do. The rest, no: the fishing village morning ends at 11:00 because the boats are in and the village goes quiet, and the farm day genuinely fills eight hours.

If you have one day and want a bit of everything, tell us your interests and we will build a private version rather than sell you two half days.

Do you run private departures?

Every day on this list can be run privately for your party at a fixed group price. That normally makes sense from two people, because our shared groups are small enough that the difference is about timing rather than crowding.

A private day lets you set the start time, which matters most for the fishing village morning if you have children.

What is the minimum number of people for a departure to run?

Two on the shared price. If you are one traveller we will still run it, at the single rate shown on each page, and we do not cancel on you afterwards because a second booking did not arrive.

Can you take a wheelchair user or someone with limited mobility?

On the cooking day and the street food walk, yes, with notice - both are flat and short. On the fishing village morning, partly: the pier itself is not accessible but the market and the crab kitchen are.

The farm day involves uneven ground and the motorbike day is out. We would rather say that clearly than have you find out at the gate.
